Controls

Left/Right: 

  • Walk left/right
  • While holding B: run left/right

A:

  • Jump
  • Hold down to jump higher.
  • Jump while running to jump even higher!
  • Hold down while stomping enemies or landing on a Bounce Block for a big bounce!

B:

  • Run
  • When at Max HP: Shoot Squarewave Bolts

Up/Down:

  • While on ladder: climb up/down

  • 1UPx(number)
    • The number of lives remaining
  • 000000
    • Your current score
  • Level 1-1
    • The current level (duh)
  • C:00
    • Number of coins collected
    • Get 100 coins for an extra life!
  • T:300
    • Time remaining
    • If it reaches 0, you’ll lose a life !
  • (x1)
    • Current combo multiplier

 

Hands On Display

The green LEDs underneath your hands indicate your Hit Points!

  • Bottom LEDs: 1 HP
  • Middle LEDs: 2 HP
  • Top LEDs: 3 (MAX) HP

 

If you touch an enemy without stomping them from above, you will lose 1 HP.

Lose all HP and you’ll lose a life.

Falling off the bottom of the screen also costs a life.

Watch that timer, denoted by “T” in the top right corner of the screen. You guessed it! Lose a life when it reaches 0.

 

Every level has a Checkpoint Flag. Touch it and you will restart from its location whenever you lose a life.

 

The shining red Container Blocks hide useful items. Hit them from any direction to release their contents! 

 

Find a “Gaming” or “Music” power-up to increase your HP. That is, if you don’t let them get away first!

Touch a Warp Vortex and you’ll be taken either to a bonus room or to the next part of the level.

Some Container Blocks may be invisible until activated. But you might just uncover a 1UP Heart for finding one…

Coins will grant an extra life for each 100 coins collected. Your current coin count is denoted by “C” in the top of the screen.

 

Brick Blocks can contain anything a Container Block can, but otherwise can be broken from the underside.

 

Bounce Blocks are just that; they will bounce you forcefully in the opposite direction that you touch them. Hold A while landing on top of them to bounce higher. In rare instances they can also act as Container Blocks.

 

Don’t forget, when you have max HP, you can press B to fire Squarewave Bolts. Defeat enemies with… ease? They’re slightly unwieldy, but can get you out of a bind!

 

Lose all lives and it’s Game Over.

But not all hope is lost. Use the “Level Select” option on the title menu to continue from the highest level you’ve reached.

While the cursor is next to “Level Select”, press left or right to choose a level to start on. Keep the cursor on “Level Select” and press A or Start to begin a new game from that level.

 

Enemies

There are 3 types of enemies that seek your destruction! Each type appears in 3 color variants of varying viciousness.

Learn their behavioral patterns ahead of time so you’ll be able to figure out the best way to approach any situation.

All enemy types can be defeated by stomping on them from above, zapping them with a Squarewave Bolt, or bumping a Container/Brick/Bounce Block into them.

 

Shrubble

  • As a walking plant, it generally prefers the ground.

Dust Bunny

  • Moves exclusively by hopping, at random heights and/or trajectories!

Megaton Wasp

  • Flies through the air and divebombs as you approach below! Some may even chase you!

 

Combo System

Most actions you take will advance the score multiplier. Keep the multiplier alive by chaining actions together. This is key to getting a high score. 

Your ongoing combo multiplier is displayed under the score at the top left corner of the screen.

If you do not perform another action within 4 seconds of the previous one, the multiplier will reset!

Do you have what it takes to keep the combo going all the way to the end of the level?

 

Examples of actions that advance the score multiplier:

  • Defeating enemies
  • Bashing brick blocks
  • Collecting coins
  • Collecting power-ups
  • Collecting 1UP hearts

 

Goal Zone

At the end of each level is a grassy field marked with lines and letter grades.

Go for big points at the end of every level by jumping and landing on the area with the best letter grade!

Grades range from D (smallest bonus) to A, then Star (huge bonus). 

Combine with a score multiplier that has been kept alive since the beginning of the level and your score may increase astronomically!

 

NOTE: the arrangement of grades varies among levels. The furthest jump will not always get you the biggest bonus…

 

Hints

  • Explore every nook and cranny. Discover a power-up and it may turn the odds in your favor!
  • Every level has a hidden 1UP. Can you find them all?
  • The direction from which you touch a Container Block affects which side its contents emerge from. Plan ahead to ensure power-ups and 1UPs don’t get away from you!
  • Wasps only attack if you are below them. Sometimes it’s better just to pass them from above. Other times you can trick them into diving down a bottomless pit!
  • Brick Blocks can also be broken by running into them full-speed from the side!
  • Hold B while walking into the side of a Bounce Block to easily break into a full-speed run in the opposite direction.
  • Occasionally, it’s better to walk onto a Bounce Block from solid ground than to jump on it. Even better, hold B and A while running onto the Bounce Block to guarantee yourself a big jump!
  • Rumor has it that, under certain conditions, you can persist combo multipliers from one level to the next. Imagine the possibilities! If you could pull it off consistently, you might just get the world record!
